Can I see an exercise physiologist at the Altona clinic?

Emily, our exercise physiologist, is based at our Ravenhall clinic rather than on-site at Altona. Altona patients needing exercise physiology are welcome at Ravenhall, about 20 minutes away, and our Altona osteopaths coordinate care with Emily where a programme needs both.

Is exercise physiology covered by Medicare?

Yes. Exercise physiology is covered under the Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan, up to 5 rebated sessions per year with a GP referral. DVA fully covers eligible veterans. Most private health funds also provide rebates under extras cover.

What's the difference between an exercise physiologist and a personal trainer?

An exercise physiologist is a registered allied health professional who works with chronic conditions, injury and complex health issues, and can claim Medicare, DVA and private health rebates. A personal trainer cannot.

Do I need a GP referral?

No referral is needed to book privately. A GP referral under a Chronic Disease Management plan unlocks Medicare-rebated sessions.

How long is an exercise physiology appointment?

An initial or extended consultation is 60 minutes and a standard follow-up is 30 minutes. Current fees are on our prices page.
