FAQs

Common Questions About Physiotherapy

What does a physiotherapist do?

A physiotherapist assesses, diagnoses, and treats musculoskeletal pain and injuries. At IAC Melbourne, our physios use manual therapy, dry needling, exercise prescription, and rehabilitation programmes to restore movement and reduce pain.

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist in Melbourne?

No referral is needed to book a private physiotherapy appointment. If you are using a Medicare Chronic Disease Management plan (CDM/EPC), you will need a GP referral. WorkCover and TAC clients also require a referral from their treating doctor.

How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?

This depends on your condition and goals. Acute injuries may resolve in 3–6 sessions, while chronic pain or post-surgical rehabilitation can take longer. Your physiotherapist will give you a clear treatment plan at your first appointment.

Where are your physiotherapy clinics in Melbourne?

We offer physiotherapy at our Ravenhall clinic (38 Panamax Rd) and our Tarneit clinic (412 Derrimut Rd, inside MyClinic Tarneit). Both clinics offer same-day and early morning appointments.

Does physiotherapy hurt?

Some techniques such as joint mobilisation or dry needling can cause temporary discomfort, but treatment should never be excessively painful. Your physiotherapist will always explain what they are doing and adjust based on your comfort level.
